Candy Crisp Apple Review
"A Pear-Cucked Red Delicious"
The phenomenally named Candy Crisp Apple out of Marlboro, New York lives up to its name with an astounding crunch, uncommon juiciness, and (if ripe enough) diabetic sweetness. The only problem with this pink blushed, yellow-green, fun lump is that it tastes like a pear. Not even a great pear (if such a thing exists). An unripe, less-juicy pear that’s been foolishly stored in a refrigerator drawer fated to eternally harden next to a forgotten onion. In fact, if you cut up a Candy Crisp apple and an unripe Bartlett Pear it would make for an incredibly difficult CAPTCHA Test. And quite frankly, I can not conceive of a graver insult than being mistaken for a pear. Which is why, this half-blood, potentially pear-cucked Red Delicious is basically akin to false advertising.

I think you’re a bit harsh on the candy crisp. It’s the beginning of March, I’m munching on one now (New England coast), and it was divine. I love pears and apples and the hint of pear in this semi-sweet, firm fleshed, crisp beauty was a welcomed winter treat! I will try-instead-of alternatives if I can find.
I like your review. We do find a lot of people do like them for being extremely sweet and crisp. Since theyre very low on acid if picked to early before making their sugar they can be very bland in flavor. Theyre very juicy and if stored correctly very juicy. It is an apple though that people either love or don’t, not a lot of in between. Have a great day.
I had some here in Michigan last fall. Stopped by a small apple farm and I purchased 1/4 bushel.
I gave too many away.
Went back the next week. SOLD OUT I will make sure to stock up
Sweet crisp a perfect bite
