Aura Apple Review
"The Reiki Apple"

A fairylike wisp of an apple, the Aura truly lives up to its name, barely registering in our plane of existence while simultaneously containing the multitudes of the universe within its shimmering form. Each rejuvenating bite of this crackling orb invites you to manifest your own flavor experience. Was that vanilla? Was that honey? Was that a spicy kick? Or is this a New Age root chakra scam-fruit that sincerely tastes like nothing? This apple raises a profound philosophical question: Is the absence of flavor actually the most flavorful thing of all? Deep.

Well, you nailed this one. It is profoundly mediocre. All the right components to make a great apple are present, but at 30% strength – it’s as if someone turned the volume knob down, then broke it off. The first hint of flavor as you bite in dissipates into watery nothingness. Reminds me of the commercial Asian pear varieties that are just crunchy water. I don’t hate it because nothing about it can evoke such a strong feeling – just ambivalence. I can’t imagine who thought this one was worthy of commercial approval.
I think this one is worth a revisit. The 2024 crop of this variety is one of the best apples I’ve ever eaten! The notes you found fleeting in the review are all front and center and it almost tastes like a vanilla custard. Give this one another shot, you won’t be disappointed. Only big complaint is that they brown quickly so not a good one for slicing and bringing to work if appearance is a put-off.
The offspring of an unripe Bartlett pear and a drunken Pineapple. Not surprising that it was a bundle of confusion in a yellow skin that yearned for adoption. So it was left in an unassuming fruit basket for a church function. Someone will love it.
Lol
I love this Apple! It is so fragrant, has a melon smell that’s intoxicating. Nice crunch when I bit into it. The taste was amazing, but had a changeable quality to it. The first taste was sweet, but a mild sweet with a honey melon after its that quickly changed into something more tart, but not fiercely so. I’m so glad I found these. Delicious!
Deena, Deena, Deena,
You said you liked this apple. You said, and I quote, “a mild sweet with a honey melon…”. Those are your words. Well, guess who tried one? Guess who expected a mild sweet apple? Did you guess? It was ME! Know what? You were RIGHT. Great review. Good call.
I was surprised to find these at Whole Foods the other day. I think, overall, the flavor was a bit stronger than you are describing here, but you’re right that it’s not consistent from bite to bite. It’s not bad, but it does taste vaguely like its Honeycrisp parentage, as most Honeycrisp hybrids do.
